  7.   The DTC solution consists of a scalable family of multivendor terminal
  8. servers, and a scalable family of network management products.  The DTC
  9. products are configured and managed with the use of a DTC Manager
  10. application that can run on three different platforms:
  11.   HP 3000/900, HP 9000/800 or PCOpenView Windows.
  12. o With the DTC host-based management, a simple terminal connected
  13.   locally or remotely to the HP 3000/900 or HP 9000/800 system is used
  14.   to manage DTCs. It provides a user interface similar to other system
  15.   administration tools.
  16.   - The HP 3000/900-based DTC management software provides a means to
  17.     configure DTCs for use in HP 3000/900 standalone environments.
  18.   - The HP 9000/800-based DTC management software provides a means to
  19.     configure DTCs in HP 9000 standalone or multisystem Telnet-TCP/IP
  20.     environments.
  21. o The HP OpenView (PC-based) DTC Manager software provides an easy-to-
  22.   use graphical user interface, to manage DTCs. It is possible to
  23.   integrate other management applications of network elements (such as
  24.   HP X.25 Switches & PADs) on the same OpenView Windows workstation.
  25.   HP OpenView DTC Manager provides a means to configure DTCs for use to
  26.   connect to HP 3000/900 or HP 9000/800 systems and to other systems in
  27.   Multivendor environments. It provides powerful network management
  28.   features for complex network topologies.
  29.  In both host-based and PC-based environments, the DTC software is
  30.   downloaded from the management platform, allowing easy distribution
  31.   and control of the DTC software.

  51. Note that when DTCs operate in extended LAN environment based on IP
  52. routers, a management platform is required per LAN segment. However, the
  53. bridging capability of routers can be used if preventing the above
  54. situation is critical.

  56. DTC SNMP agent
  57. Besides the services provided by the DTC management platforms, the DTC-
  58. based SNMP agent (delivery Mid 93) will allow customers to take
  59. advantage of SNMP-based management applications such as the HP OpenView
  60. Network Node Manager.

  62. The following features are available with Node Manager:
  63. o Automatic discovery of DTCs.
  64. o Status/Colors management. The DTCs are automatically polled on a
  65.   regular basis and the status color is reflected on the map.
  66. o MIB loader/browser. It provides display of MIB values in text or
  67.   graphical form and the capability to modify them if permitted by the
  68.   DTC
  69. o MIB application builder. It enables users to build applications
  70.   dealing with DTC MIB objects
  71. o Historical data reporting for troubleshooting and network planning.
  72.  
  73. The DTC SNMP agent will be supported on all DTC hardware and
  74. configurable from all the DTC management platforms.
  75.   HP 3000-Based Management
  76. For terminal and printer connections to a single HP 3000/900 or where
  77. X.25 communication (PAD support and system-to-system) to a single
  78. HP 3000/900 is needed, the DTC can operate under HP 3000/900 based
  79. management (NMMGR and TermDSM utilities)
  80.   DTC management functions are available to ease the configuration,
  81. maximize network uptime and reduce operating costs. Please refer to the
  82. table attached at the end of this document for detailed information.
  83.   PC-based management may also be used in this configuration to take
  84. advantage of the more sophisticated management tools.
  85.   The HP 3000/900 DTC management software is part of the MPE/iX
  86. fundamental operating system.

  88. HP 9000-based management
  89. For terminal and printer connections to a single HP 9000/800 host or
  90. multiple HP or non-HP TCP/IP hosts, the DTC can operate under
  91. HP 9000/800 based management (HP DTC Manager/UX)
  92.   The HP DTC Manager/UX product supports access to multiple Unix systems
  93. (switching capability) multisession, symbolic system addressing using
  94. Arpa DNS and provides a routable TCP/IP implementation that guarantees
  95. access through IP routers.
  96.   DTC Management functions are available to ease the configuration,
  97. maximize network uptime and reduce operating costs. Please refer to the
  98. table attached at the end of this document for detailed information.
  99.   The HP DTC Manager/UX software runs on HP 9000/800 systems with HP-UX
  100. release 8.0 or later, and ARPA Services/9000.

  105. PC-based management
  106. The DTC must operate under HP OpenView Workstation (PC) management in
  107. the following cases:
  108. o When local access is required to multiple HP and non-HP systems
  109. o When remote access to multiple HP 3000 systems through X.25 is
  110.   required
  111. o When remote access to HP 9000 or other TCP/IP systems through X.25 is
  112.   required
  113. o When Telnet-TCP/IP Access to HP 3000/900 systems is needed.
  114.  
  115. Using the HP OpenView DTC Manager, the network administrator can easily
  116. and quickly configure up to 150 DTCs in a flexible manner, centrally
  117. isolate and resolve problems occurring on DTCs, and secure access to
  118. information. These features help the network administrator to greatly
  119. increase the network uptime.  In addition, the HP OpenView DTC Manager
  120. reduces learning time of users by providing an easy-to-use graphical
  121. interface based on HP OpenView Windows.
  122.   Easy-to-use OpenView standard menus allow quick access to extensive
  123. DTC management functions, including configuration and problem isolation,
  124. as well as problem resolution of HP DTCs. Please refer to the table
  125. attached at the end of this document for detailed information.
  126.   The HP OpenView DTC manager is supported on all Hewlett-Packard 386
  127. PCs, IBM PS/2-55 and model 50, and Compaq DeskPro 386/20 PCs.
  128.   HP OpenView DTC Manager is currently supported with the following
  129. software stack:
  130. o HP OpenView Windows 6.0
  131. o MS-DOS version 5.0
  132. o Microsoft Windows 3.1
  133. o HP ARPA & Network Services/DOS 2.5

  138. Application Integration
  139. HP OpenView DTC Manager uses MS-Windows 3.1 protected mode which allows
  140. many HP OpenView applications to run concurrently on the same
  141. HP OpenView workstation. DTC Manager has been tested running the
  142. following applications concurrently:
  143. o HP OpenView Switch/PAD manager (J2107A)
  144. o HP OpenView System manager (36936A)
  145. o HP OpenView Console (32054M)
  146.   Running the above applications concurrently is only supported on a
  147. 386-based PC, and it should be noted that the PC memory should be
  148. increased by approximately 2MBytes per application.
  149. *HP OpenView DTC Manager and HP OpenView Switch/PAD Manager are
  150.   supported on 286-based PCs
  151.   Various permutations of applications have been tested, for a complete

  154.   HP AdvanceLink for Windows (Part of the bundle HP 32054D) may be used
  155. to access an HP 3000/900 system console port from the HP OpenView
  156. workstation.
